Arnie or Bambino?

Postby h2cruz » Wed May 02, 2012 10:33 pm

Hiya, I'm haveing trouble determining what swim type I am, the test has me dead even between an Arnie, and a Bambino. I will puchase the appropriate drill set once I know "who" I am. Just as a side note, I have been a surfer for all my life, so am very comfortable in the water, even in VERY testing conditions, wind/crowds, I have however gotten anxious in freshwater events, perfect conditions....probably due to poor body position (not as 'floatie' in fresh H2o) which then leads to kicking problems and poor breathing, and you know the 'rest of the story', aye? I have included a couple of short video clips, once you stop laughing, I'm sure you'll be able to decide, Arnie or Bambino?..............splash you later........Mike

What a fun question, even Arnies are allowed to be scared :)

You swim like an Arnie, but feel like a Bambino, why not purchasing both training guides? (really teasing you here).

The Arnie Guide should suit you better.

What are your goals? What brought you here? What did the little questionnaire (SwimTypes) tell you?

I just want to learn how to swim properly:) I planning to do an ironman in the future, but I think I'm a bad swimmer(I'm very slow - about 9min for 400m). I would like to swim faster with less effort. Right now after 400m I'm very tired. According the questionnaire I'm arnie or bambino.

Assuming the following Scenarios:
1. Two friends, a cyclist and a running want you as a swimmer to take part in an Team Ironman race. The race is held next weekend, there will be 1000 persons jumping in the water in the same time
or
2. Someone is willing to pay for the registrations fees for an individual Ironman race. You think it's a good idea as it will allow you to test your swim leg. You have no real intention to complete the whole event per se. Again, the race is held next weekend (June 16).

What would your state of mind be, whilst waiting on the beach for the big Horn to yell the start of the event?

How would you feel, if I was telling you that you have a 3.8k race to swim along with 999 other participants next weekend?

I'm not affraid of racing in the crowd. I just know my limits:) I think could finish but not sure If I could do it before cut off time. I think my endurance is good (on the bike and run). I just suck in the water. I want something more than just complete the distance.

Then Arnie, without a doubt.

You shall go with this purchase in all piece of mind :)

You may have a few of these Bambinos' properties, but that is certainly not your dominant side.

Yeah. A bambino would have expressed some level of concern in regard to the mass start, which ultimately would translate a lack of confidence to even finish the event (with such a lack of preparation). Typical Arnold himself would rather fear of not making it to the other shore on time.

Your body type is that of an Arnie, and you display stroke technique attributes common to Arnies as well.

Looks like there is a bucket hanging on your legs,(to nuch knee bending>) and your arms are not getting any grip on the water. Arms are crossing the centerline.
From behing doesnt look bad.
My 2 cents... :)

Really just a curiosity.

It makes absolute sense for an Arnie to aim for Smooth.
