Hey Everyone,

Mike Moore here...new to the site...long time triathlete, getting older (45) but still wants to swim better; it is my weakness. The good news is I know my weaknesses...the bad news is I have know about my weaknesses for several years and haven't done the work to correct or improve them...

Any success stories out there?

Mike

Hi Mike and welcome!

Myself, I am a rookie in triathlon (aiming for my first 70.3 IM this summer). Have run about 25 marathons and been doing some swimming. Cycling is however my weakness, I believe. Working on that - but so far I just love the sport. Not that young anymore (47).

I suppose Mr Smooth would be a great help for you, it has opened a new world for me :)

All the best,

Magnus

Hi Mike, every post has some small success [which means you'll be reading for days] - even taking 2sec off your average 25m time is a success!!
At the other end check out those doing the super long stuff [19km Rotti swim, English channel and the ironmans] but anyone who has been working through the beginner programs are just as impressive.

The blue ribbon set in the biggest loser discussion is a great place to see where you're at and what you can achieve [if you're feeling brave to tackle it]

good luck

Hey everyone,
New to here and hoping to improve and pick up some times.
I swam at fairly average club level 30years back.
In the last couple of years I've started triathlon, mostly sprint/pool based and reckon that I can really improve my swim leg.
Just not quite sure how - hence the reason I'm here.

Looking forward to ideas, tips and general swim chat.

Hello Every one, where ever you all are.

I'm Lia, not one bit interested in tri-thingy-bobs, just want to be able to swim well for my own health.
Use to swim lots a mile a day 6 days a week then I got seriously ill and was confined to bed for a number of years.
However am back up on my feet and since Nov 09 have continued to get better.
So much so that I was able to join a gym and get in the pool and swim again.

The pool is 20m long and I started with just trying to remember how to swim and could only do 10 lengths.
I am now up to 40 lengths after 6weeks of going.

Hello everyone.,
Been reading here for a few weeks to get some great swimming tips. I've got from 3:00m per 100m (I KNOW I KNOW) six weeks ago to 2:05mins per 100m. Sprinting (non sustainable beyond 100m) I can do 1:39mins per 100m. The improvement (such as it is) is directly due to the information on the forums here and on the swimsmooth website so thanks swimsmooth!
I have a lot more work to do. But six weeks in I'm happy with my progress. I swim in my local gym, 33m pool three times a week. Currently training for my first sprint triathlon (A race is August 29th). Usually I do about 1500m to 2000m per workout and do drills, threshold swim and endurance swim.
Can't wait to get to know you all more and learn more.

Hi Noosk - great improvements there -if you had to nail this down to a couple of key points which you think have made the most impact, what would they be?

Cheers

[quote="Adrienne Willing"]G'day, I only had to have a quick read of swimsmooth to know that this is almost exactly on par with my style of coaching and beliefs. I do however need to read much more, and learn more from others. I have just arrived in Darwin Australia and started coaching, so I am in the first phases of developing a following again. Making sure that I get along with the public pool politics is always fun too! :D So far so good!

One question about drafting, there are many different theories with where is best. On the Feet, Off to the side on the legs near the hips, 1 meter off the feet etc.....
What's swimsmooths thoughts on this?

Cheers

Hey Everyone

Postby rjrobert21 » Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:22 am

Greetings. Rick Robertson here from Houston, TX. 53 year old male nursing a running injury. My brother-in-law suggested I learn to swim as a cross training exercise. All of a sudden I'm thinking that someday I'd like to do some triathlons. Also, I'd like to do fitness swimming for the rest of my adult life to help stay in shape. I can swim freestyle but poorly. I presently huff and puff after 50 meters. I'm anxious to get better and have ordered the DVD boxset and am waiting for it to arrive. I guess I need to start reading this forum regularly to help, also. Hope to get to know all of you better in the days to come. Thanks!

Hi Swim Smooth Team! I'm Elizabeth & love being an advanced ocean & pool swimmer for charities. I found 'Mr Smooth' in Facebook a year ago & ever since I've recommended your site to fellow swimmers. 'Mr Smooth' is useful and insightful. Your website makes all my swimming coach's intructions 'visual'. Thanks mates!

Hi I'm Ann. I am teaching myself to swim freestyle from the Mr Smooth tips on-line. On my second visit to the pool I managed to swim 2 lengths but had a quick rest inbetween! I'm hoping that as I practice the various drills I will get more used to the stroke.

Hi Guys,
I am new here in swimsmooth and let me tell you that Mr. Smooth is the best thing since God created water! I have started using Mr. smooth's example and have started practicing. Adam has been awesome in answering my questions.
I qualified Saturday for the Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championships even with a disasterous swim. So I look forward to having a much better swim in October in the Championship using SwimSmooth and Mr. Smooth as my sample of a great swimmer.

The animation of Mr. Smooth is so awesome; it shows so much technique and I look forward to learning. I have talked to 10 different swim coachs about swimming and have gotten 10 different answers but Mr. Smooth walks the walk when it comes to swimming!

Hello Everyone,

I've been reading the forum for a while and have found it a great help. I've never been a competitive swimmer and hadn't done any serious swim training for a very long time. In between watching the World Cup (Go NZ!), I'm training for IM in 2011. So far, I've found the info and ideas here a great motivator. I bought a Wetronome to help me swim at an even pace and a Swimovate watch to keep a track of stats. Don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but they are both great products and I would recommend them without a blink. My stats say that I've cut my sustained distance times from 2:10/100m to under 1:50/100m over the past few weeks and I am hoping for more. My swim buddy says my feet are now much higher in the water and my arm strokes look much more deliberate so I'm guessing there have been improvements in my all-round technique.

Hiya All: Brand new to this forum. Waited until after my retirement to ""seriously"" learning how to swim. Now in my mid-60's :o  This is my 4th. attempt in trying to learn since my childhood. ]][[ .....just ran out of excuses, I guess....? ]][[ Been getting SwimSmooth tutorial uploads to my Blackberry cellphone in a regular basis for about 6 mos. now. - As an introductory message/question, i would like to discuss strategy for a different sort of goal (in swimming). Most advices I've seen on The Site so far has discussed how to improve ones stoke(s) in order to swim *faster*. I'm more interested in how to endure (i.e., maintain myself) in the water,....while traveling in more-or-less a straight line for **the longest possible duration**,...with the least amount of energy expended. ]][[ ....remember my age, as posted above... ]][[ Would like to gain more self-confidence in pool, as well as (eventually) open water so that I might be able to ward-off panic upon reaching (or getting close to reaching) depletion of energy after an extended period of time in the water. Not all that keen on racing anyone at this juncture of my learning cycle~~~~! BTW Have recently started going back to the gym in order to try and re-strengthen certain lower extremity joints that went into atrophy after post-trauma repairitive surgery (& keep in an orthopeadic leg-immobilizer too long),...away back in 1992 {work-related injury}. Would Much Appreciate Any & All Help/Advice You May Be Able To offer Me Here: mji/sf,ca ;)

Hi,
I am here on behalf of my daughter Eshita. We are from Mumbai in India. She is 15 and swims competitively . Her events are the 200 Flyy, 200/400/800/1500 free. Whatever I have read on this site find it quite useful.
A suggestion - can the training plans be downloaded as a soft copy ? Also some information o other strokes will be a great help. Cheers..shalil

Hello!

A former national level swimmer here, looking to reconnect with some old teammates and maybe meet some new friends on the way. I swam competitively for nearly 20 years, and still miss it to this day. I try and hit the local lap pool whenever I can, but work and other commitments always have a way of sidestepping those plans!

Looking forward to contributing :)
