Hi Rich,

This is something we're launching on the blog very shortly. We're just improving the format slightly so there's been a slight delay - watch this space!

Cheers, Adam

struggling triathlete here. I can probably come close to doing level 1 right now. I go about 2.05 per 100 on 2:15 for 10 reps.

This sounds like a great idea for me. I haven't trained swimming in 3 years and even then it was never very structered, I just got in the pool and did laps. I have only competed in sprint distance tri's and my spring time goal is a half IM and a full IM next summer. Swimming is my worst event so I need all the help I can get!!! Starting with getting used to bilateral breathing.

I like this challenge. It will be a good focus for me for this winter.

I live in the States and do not have access to a Meter pool. All the area pools are 25 yards. I assume however the same improvement scale to shoot for and distances can be translated to yards instead.

Yes indeed deblambourn - no problem!

Good luck!

Sounds like good off season training. I am struggling swimmer and fit into the Level 1 category. Hope to move to Level 2 someday.

Just finished the Riband Swim Set with an average of 2:01 ... not bad ... but looking forward to improving. I think that slots me into Level 1.

Good Luck everyone. ;)

Well done clare75! Out of interest, what was your fastest / slowest times from that set if your average was 2.01? Don't know if you saw the Blog post last week about pacing, but keen to hear how close your splits were.

Cheers

I got a 1:43.8 average doing the 12x100 set. This was based on a 50-yard short-course pool where I got a range of 1:28-1:35. Only 1 was 1:35, and I rallied after that to get mostly 1:34's, so I put 1:34 into the SwimAZ.com yard-meter conversion tool, which gave me 1:43.8. I hope to get under 1:35 in 12 weeks. Ambitious, but I've been told I look like Michael Phelps so I figure I 1:35 is a step toward eventually getting a 48-second time.

Thats a great link kogut - thanks for sharing it. For this exercise you don't need to necessarily convert your times, our "predictor" will work equally for yards or meters.

Keep us posted!

I'm interested in doing your challenge. Will take the test on my next swim which will be Thurs. I have been swimming for 3 yrs. and I'm stuck. Not seeing much improvement anymore. When I 1st started (which I basically learned from scratch), I had a fx. ankle so had to swim with the pull buoy for 5 wks. I literally thought I would be an olympic swimmer when I got through because it was so easy. Needless to say I was shocked when the pull buoy was removed and I was swimming uphill. Anyway, all this to say I've really never developed a kick. My feet just kind of drag behind me even with Fins. I'm all upperbody. I've never really had a feel of the water on the pull and I have very little range of motion in my neck on one side from a car accident.

I've found this is the best website in explaining swimming and Mr. Smoothe is my new boyfriend! LOL I'm trying to focus on 1 technique at a time. The first was core and now I'm working on the roll. I still feel that my timing is off somewhere but hopefully it'll click soon.

Thanks, I've recommended your website to many people.

Hi All,
Hoping to have a go at this tomorrow. I'll have to wait for it to quieten down a bit otherwise there are issues with drafting, overtaking and splashing the 'chattering classes' hairdos!!. Hoping to get to level 2.
