Crap 12.5! you must be a man of steel Bjoern, no wetsuit either I suppose?

You're kidding. Did a tri a couple of years at that temperature, that was b****y cold, so I don't do that unless I have to. Nah, we're waiting for the 15° to come. Sun promised for the next 5 days. Might help... :)

From Lover's Point Beach to the 200 ltr. buoy round trip @ 1.6 km on Monterey Bay, California. Air temp 13ºC. Water temp 13ºC. No wetsuit. Cohorts = Chris, Erica, Kellie, Terry, Jim, PJ, Ron, Pat, Dave, Melissa, Steve

Iv been paddling away in the water and have finally seen my effort in motion.
Not only do i notice the black line moves underneath me, but my times i am chuffed about!!

Still only over the shorter distances and in a 25m pool - but its a start & im not smashing myself too badly to achive it.

50m was 65sec, now 48sec
100m was 2:05, now 1:48
200m was 4:12, now 3:37!!!
next i have to try and hold pace for 500m -yikes-

I did doubt i had it in me, but its great to know change is possible ;)

OWS only 1 day a week. Pool 5 days a week. The OWS is glamorous. The pool swims are the grind:
800wu
(200, 200kick, 200IM, 200pull, 200) each @ 4:00
6x100IM@NR,
350kick,
6x25@0:30pull,
6x25@0:30swim=3050yds

you find the pool swims a grind? I am the opposite - pool is native, OW is a discipline. Even tho I grew up surfing and beach swimming I am yet (but open) to be convinced that seaweed, salt, currents and marine predators are glamorous - I know its all in the eye of the beholder etc :D

pool today 5km
1100m free
1100m free
1300m free pull
500m fin kick
5 x 100m free cycle on 1:30
10 x 50m cycle on 0:45

Was 3 days away biking 177 km, swimming OW 5 km and running a bit too. It was not cold at all compared to Nanorat

the last day (600 ), however, it was 6 C in the air and 15 C in water. I used wetsuit, by the way...

Tomorrow I am doing a TT on 3.5 km in pool. Aiming for 66.30

Later,

Magnus

Yes,Yes,Yes Exactly! When you tell someone you did 3600 meters in a pool, you will bore them to death but if you say you did 3km in the ocean they say "Good for you, I wish I could do that". Anyway here is today's grind:

300wu, 8x25 fly @0:30, 2x(200 pull, 200 kick, 200 IM)@3:30, 2x200@3:30, 4x75 IM no free - no rest = 2400

I was a bit disappointed at my TT for 3.5 k this morning, 68.29. Was aiming for 66.30 :(

I believe that I have a problem after the catch: I do not pull backwards, but a bit too much down

need to work on that during next week

Have a good weekend all! :P

Nanorat, it is true, work and things have been taking its toll lately. Thank you for that.

Just returned from a 2.5 h workout (bike + run).

Next TT is 3 weeks ahead, 4.0 k. Hope to be fresher then.

Cheers,

Magnus

Well done everybody.

Did I say that swimming is sometimes boring, but nothing compared to sitting on a yacht? I still prefer sailing in dinghys.

Everybody either asleep or training very hard ;)

Last monday I was training too hard, 2.20 h run and 1.55 h bike later during the day. Next morning 2200 m swim session (15 x 100). Nearly got ill of that - too much for me

Got back later during the week, TT 60 k this morning on the bike 1.56.30. Very happy for that (even if imagine that Bjoern wouldl do that circling backwords  ). For me, it meant however, that my aim for the bike-leg in July 70.3 realistically can be below 3 hrs.

Tueday morning next swim, CSS 400 m and 200 test.

Be good :P

Busy time at the mo as nearly everybody around me is ill or injured.

Your TT 60 sounds good. I'm not that much faster. Keep on practising. :)

Thanks for that, Bjoern! :) I will. Planning to do a TT of 10 k in the coming weeks also.

This morning 3100 m different sets; cannot understand why the kicking drills are so exhausting (even if I do only 4 x 50 m)

Next friday will do a TT swim of 4.0 k.

Have a good weekend all,

Did a TT series in 2007 with short races on Tuesdays and Thursdays (5/7/10mls) and longer races (25/50/80mls) on Saturday mornings. Did that for 3 month and was really fed up with TTing afterwards. But it improved my cycling a lot and I still love TTs on the bike. We still do them every 4 weeks.

hi all
been in holding pattern at reduced mileage with some back/neck/shoulderish issues
plenty physio / massage / few weeks of low km's in pool
just ramping up kms again
been averaging 3 x 4km sessions a week
put in a 5k yesterday and seemed ok
hopefully get to 5 x 5km this week
been putting in some running miles for fitness
hopefully can keep that up - its a nice change from the black line

yesterday 5km sesh
1km free 14m
10 x 200m free cycling on 3:10
1km free pull 14m
5 x 200m fins (100m free + 100m kick) on 3:15

highly traumatized by the australia's first group game in world cup :(

later all

Good 1km times for someone who's sore. NZ's first game tomorrow night, I'll be gutted if we loose as bad as you guys did  Still think you have a better chance of making it through your group than us though. No Cahill for next game will make it a bit tougher

Phew... could achieve more than that was planned for yesterday (13/06/2010)!
A freestyle swim of 2500m in 1 hr and 15 minutes was my previous ‘best’ that was achieved this Wednesday (09/06/2010).
Just for the “itch” of testing my endurance had planned a longer swim since Sunday morning...

I’d started out with an intention of somehow managing 3Kms.

WOW... In spite of a 400m warm up, I surprised myself and easily managed a non-stop freestyle swim for a distance of 4000M, in 1hr 48min, totalling 4400m today evening!!! Could have gone for another Km or two if someone’s life depended on it, not mine... so stopped after 4Km of swimming! Albeit was a bit tired I did not skip the walk to and fro the club which totals around 3 K, I gave myself a treat of two big glasses of Sweet-lime juice just outside the club!

I know, most of you reading this may be laughing yourselves hoarse and falling into splits because I posted these “snail’s pace” & trivial timings and distance on this post... but... for a person like me who’s from a non-athletic background and till I quit, around two and a quarter years back, smoked 3 and a half to 4 packs of cigaretts a day... this is a small achievement that’s to be celebrated by at least making a “post” out of it!

Slept as a MAN, woke up as GIANT ROBOT!
(I’m walking like the lead character from the old Japanese TV show named "Giant Robot" which we used to watch as secondary school kids... sometime in the early 1980s). Following my swim stint yesterday, soreness has crept in today and only due to the aches and pains, I'm newly realising the existence of all those muscles hiding under all the blubber!
